What channel is Notre Dame on today? Why Week 2 football game vs. Toledo is only on Peacock

Notre Dame is breaking from tradition on Saturday when it takes on Toledo in its home opener.

For the first time in history, fans can only watch the No. 8-ranked Fighting Irish play via a streaming service: NBCUniversal’s Peacock. It’s the first of seven Notre Dame home games that will be broadcast on Peacock this year, and the only one that can’t also be watched on TV, via NBC. Fans can sign up for a free account of Peacock, but need to pay $4.99 per month for Premium, the only way to access Notre Dame football games.

“Dating back to airing Sunday football replays with Lindsey Nelson, we have always strived for innovation in the media space — our partnership with NBC and Peacock only solidifies that mission,” Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement announcing the partnership. “Bringing Notre Dame football to Peacock is just the next step in the evolution of our relationship.”

It’s possible fans won’t miss much from Saturday’s game between the Irish and Rockets. After all, Notre Dame on paper is the far superior team and should easily handle Toledo as it makes its way to Notre Dame Stadium. But then again, the same could have been said for Brian Kelly and Co. ahead of the Florida State game, and that ended up finishing with a walk-off field goal in overtime. So who knows?

Regardless, look for Notre Dame to try and clean up some of its mistakes it committed against the Seminoles — and for quarterback Jack Coan to continue his fast start to the season after throwing four touchdowns in his first game.

With that, here’s everything you need to know to watch Notre Dame vs. Toledo on Saturday:

Notre Dame vs. Toledo will air exclusively on Peacock Premium starting at 2:30 p.m. ET. Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Drew Brees (game analyst) and Kathryn Tappen (sideline reporter) will call all Fighting Irish games on NBC this season.

The Notre Dame vs. Toledo game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 11. It is the Fighting Irish’s first home game of the season, the first to be broadcast on Peacock and the only one this season to be available solely via streaming service.

In order to watch Notre Dame football via Peacock, fans will need to subscribe to Peacock Premium ($4.99 a month) or Peacock Premium Plus ($9.99 a month). Subscribing to Premium access — or Premium Plus access, which gets rid of commercials — will allow fans to stream Notre Dame home games in 2021. Otherwise, fans will have to watch the game on TV or another streaming service.
