Aaron Rodgers could request trade from Packers after 2021 season
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers might have come to an understanding about the 2021 season, but it is far from a guarantee that he will retire in the green and gold.
FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on Thursday that the two sides have an agreement in place that if Rodgers wants out after this upcoming campaign, he can request and be granted a trade to send him out of Green Bay.
“They have about six months to try and repair that relationship,” Glazer reported. “If at the end of this year Aaron Rodgers decides he wants out, they have to trade Aaron Rodgers. They have agreed to it already.”
MORE: What can the Packers do to keep Aaron Rodgers past 2021?
In a candid news conference after his agreement to return to the Packers, Rodgers was open about the holdout. The reigning MVP said that he wanted more input into things that directly affected his job on the field and that he wanted to help the organization learn from past mistakes. He said that his holdout was never about money, but that he did want to have a discussion with the team about his future in Green Bay past 2021.
Rodgers officially ended his holdout with Green Bay when the two sides agreed to a reworked contract that gave him more job security and that could keep him in a Packers’ uniform in 2022.
Now that Rodgers is back, it’s going to be all about keeping him happy. The team already brought back Randall Cobb and now needs to try to make sure Davante Adams wants to stick around.
